Swedish Massage Therapy includes the techniques of:
- Effleurage Long, light strokes
- Petrissage Muscle squeezing, stripping, wringing, picking up, skin rolling and kneading
- Vibrations Oscillations to the tissue

There are a host of popular and useful techniques that are not considered Sweedish Massage therapy.
Some of these Non-Sweedish Techniques include:
- Static Pressure Techniques e.g. trigger point release
- Frictions Disrupts and breaks down existing and forming adhesions in muscles, tendons and ligaments using compression and motion
- Myofascial Release Applying gentle sustained pressure into myofascial connective tissue restrictions to reduce pain and restore motion
- Joint Mobilization Techniques e.g. muscle energy, tractioning, joint play
- Manual Lymphatic Drainage Lightly pumping lymphatic fluid through the lymphatic capillaries to increase lymph flow, decrease edema and pain, reducing fibrin which leads to scar tissue
